Crockenhill Primary School Produces AB’s Pick of the Crop

Regional Winner

Children and staff at Crockenhill Primary School in Crockenhill, Swanley were delighted to hear that one of its pupils, Jack Bunker, aged 10, had been chosen as overall winner of Ashton Burkinshaw’s primary school art competition.

Ashton Burkinshaw, a specialist residential property letting specialist with thirteen branches across Kent and Sussex, had asked primary schools in Swanley, and other towns where it has a branch, to create a new "To Let" board for them, with the winning design being made up into a board and placed outside every property that Ashton Burkinshaw advertise "to let" throughout the region.

Among the prizes pupils stood the chance of winning was a state of the art 'iPod', £300 in cash for their school and various items of art equipment.

Regional Winner

Jack Bunker, an art student in Year 6, had designed a very eye-catching picture of a bright blue house for let in front of a shining, smiling sun and colourful rainbow that had particularly impressed the judges.

Jack's picture had been chosen as a regional winner from a huge number of entries from primary schools in the Swanley area by Ashton Burkinshaw's Swanley branch staff and local business people. One of the judges who helped Ashton Burkinshaw select Jack's picture was Frank McConnell, Chief Executive of Swanley Chamber of Commerce who was at the presentation.

As a regional winner, Jack's picture was judged against the ten other regional winners and was then selected as overall winner for the whole region. Jack's design will soon be seen outside hundreds of houses for rent throughout Kent and East Sussex.

Graham Harrison, Chief Executive of Ashton Burkinshaw, presented a delighted Jack with an iPOD, a set of art equipment as well as a copy of his picture mounted on a 'To Let' board. A cheque for £300 was presented to the Head Teacher, Mrs Sue Norwell, and Art Co-ordinator, Mrs Iris Waterton.

Regional Winner Sam Tabor, Franchisee of Ashton Burkinshaw Swanley said -
"Ashton Burkinshaw is always very keen to work closely with the local community. Both the children and local schools are fundamental to any area we operate in, and we decided that this art competition would be a great way of giving the children something new and fun to do, and we would get a newly designed 'To Let' board in the process,"
Head Teacher, Mrs Norwell, added -
"We were very pleased when we were approached by Ashton Burkinshaw to take part in their school art competition. The children have really enjoyed using their creative skills in designing a 'To Let' board that could have ended up on the streets throughout Kent and East Sussex for everyone to see. It was very exciting to hear that one of our pupil’s paintings had been selected as regional runner up, but to go on to win the overall competition is absolutely thrilling – we are so proud of what Jack has achieved. He is a delightful pupil and deserves this success. We intend to spend the money presented to the school on new materials for the school’s thriving Art department."
